Lose Weight Without the Fads

By: Jessie Mcfarland

Are you one of those weight watchers who think that losing weight can best be achieved by joining a certain popular diet program usually endorsed by a famous celebrity? Most dieters often find themselves falling prey to the fad diet trap. There is no one system that works for all.

Fad diets are simply complex meal plans and these include the popular diet programs such as the South Beach and Atkins diet. With all the publicity surrounding them, it may convince you that losing weight is a breeze under the diet programs. In time to come, the diet fall out of favor once the feelings of deprivation sets in. Of course, it is possible to lose weight by seriously restricting food intake without any exercise. However, that does not make you healthier with the deprivation the fad diets give you. Besides a proper sensible diet, engaging in a proper exercise program is the right step to staying healthy and fit.

Exercising to lose weight may be in the form of a training workout or any physical activity that can get your body to lose fats. There are many strength training routines recommended by fitness experts nowadays but do consider those that you can follow through consistently for maximum results. Equip yourself with the right knowledge and understanding of what these exercises are, what it can do for you, how to do it and finally being able to keep to a regular schedule. It has to be something that can sustain you in the longer term. There is no use in being over-ambitious on a fancy fitness program, and later lose steam faster than you realize it.

If a workout routine is difficult due to work constraints, it makes sense to take longer walks whenever there is opportunity. Walking is an aerobic activity that has proven pretty effective to burn calories. Like any exercise, if done with a high enough intensity, walking can help to create changes in your entire body - the muscles get to work with the increased metabolism and your body starts to burn fat. Walking can also be an effective training technique used to lose fats if done in a certain manner for instance, taking a walk up and down the stairs. Other simple aerobic exercises that can be done in the comfort of your home such as skipping and jumping are known to aid weight loss effectively. Exercises that get your muscles working together and your body to expend calories is the key to losing weight.

Along with the physical exercises, one can also consider taking up yoga or pilates. These exercises relax the muscles and provide a safer, more comfortable feeling than using complex exercise machines in the gym. They can make you feel more in tune with your body, mind and spirit thus the desire to lose weight is enhanced.

If you love some outdoor fun with your kids, play your favorite sport with them. You'll get to toughen up your muscles besides losing weight. Even if you are not the sporty type of person, you can always pick up a game or two or participate in some physical group activities in your neighborhood. Being active physically helps to keep your focus away from mindless munching during the day.

Losing weight is not about fad diets or dieting. You don't have to spend a lot of money on monthly diet programs or unnatural diet pills that put your health fully in the hands of others. Start getting physically active and with a sensible diet you will lose weight.
