Calcium Nutrition
Calcium is an essential mineral for the human body. Proper
calcium nutrition can help maintain bone density, assist in blood clotting,
and has a significant impact on blood pressure regulation. Low calcium
intake is known to be a primary cause of osteoporosis.
For absorbing calcium, nutrition experts recommend a proper amount
of vitamin D. This vitamin helps absorb calcium from the digestive tract,
increasing the ability of the body to maintain bone mass. Vitamin D
can be taken through a variety of food sources as well as through supplements
when advised to do so by a doctor.
The needed amount of calcium, nutrition experts agree, is dependent
largely on your age. Adolescents can require 2-4 times the amount of
calcium than does a small child. Once adulthood is reached, calcium
requirements tend to decrease, but only by a small percentage.
